Top 10 Worst Items in League of Legends

We’ve discussed broken items in League of Legends’ history as well as the OP ones on the current patch, League has all sorts of items and that means there were also useless items that are either still in the game or removed. Today, we will show you all about the worst items in League of Legends which are either cost-inefficient or downright worthless. Without further ado, let’s get into the list.

    1. Kraken Slayer

Most of us think that the passive and stats on Kraken Slayer are very strong, but if you come to think of it, building this item on ADC’s is pretty useless. It serves as a simple stat item and its unique passive that deals bonus true damage on your third attack is so small that sometimes it really does feel like nothing.

The item synergizes greatly with Vayne as it improves her 2nd skill that works similarly to Kraken Slayer’s unique passive but that’s it. Other variants of this Mythic item are the Immortal ShieldBow and the Galeforce, both items give the users huge boosts especially on Galeforce’s active ability that let’s the user dash and deal damage at the same time.

Sure Kraken Slayer works well on ADC’s that have really high attack speed, but it only works if there are tanks who stack up on armor in the game. For it to feel relevant, you would need to stack up another item against tanks which is Blade of the Ruined Kind, which if you come to think of it, is not really gold efficient because you need another item for it to become relevant and useful.

Season 12 is a season where attack speed is not that really big of a deal anymore, and looking at Kraken Slayer’s Mythic passive that gives 10% attack speed for each legendary item, it really seems useless.

    2. The Collector

While the unique passive of the collector seems enticing, this item really is just another stat boost item that doesn’t really have much value when you come to think about it. I mean, last hitting a champion gives you 25 bonus gold, that doesn’t even let you buy a single potion.

The reason why people build this item is because of it’s executing passive that executes champions that fall below 5% HP, when you first look at it, it seems like a very good item, like an execute from Cho’Gath’s or Pyke’s ultimate, but 5% is just a measly amount of HP that doesn’t really matter.

When champions reach their 5% hp mark, they usually get finished by ignite or simply red buff, so why go build this item? It’s a full item with a price of 3000 gold, you can build other items with that price range, and some of them are even cheaper and much more valuable like the Umbral Glaive that really helps you in the Macro part of the game.

There are also lots of ways that you can compensate for that 5% hp execute of The Collecter, for instance, there is the Dark harvest rune that lets you deal bonus damage to low HP enemies. You can also take the ignite rune or the red buff to burn enemies who escaped with 5% hp. So save your gold and buy something that can actually help your team win the game.

    3. Sunfire Aegis

With the addition of new items, Sunfire isn’t the only source of Immolate passive anymore, there are lots of other items out there with great active effects that make use of Immolate passive much better than Sunfire Aegis.

Frostfire Gauntlet is basically Sunfire Aegis but with more passive effects namely the Snowbind passive of the item that lets you slow down enemies every time you hit them. Frostfire Gauntlet creates an area of frozen ground so every time an enemy traverses it, they get slowed for a percentage.

The same goes for Turbo Chemtank, and it recently got buffed as well as it lets you deal bonus damage every time you move, making the likes of Akali and Hecarim really OP. There are lots of alternatives for Sunfire Aegis, so don’t waste your gold on this and find something else that would help you in your lane.

    4. Stridebreaker

Don’t get me wrong, this item once dominated the game, especially with champions like Garen and Darius. This item once had an active effect that lets your champion dash a short distance then slow the enemies hit with its AOE damage.

Darius used to build this item so much that it became his staple item, you can simply chase enemies down, use Stridebreaker as a gap closer and then pull the enemies towards you and finish them off with your combo. The same goes for Garen as he can simply charge with his Q, slow enemies down with Stridebreaker’s active and proceed to destroy enemies with his E.

Riot has decided, enough is enough with this overwhelming tactic and removed the dash of the item and left Stridereaker crippled as almost nobody builds this item anymore except Nocturne. Nocturne has the ability to keep to his enemy’s side by gaining movement speed with his Q, while Nocturne is channeling his E, he can use Stride Breaker to slow enemies down preventing them from running away.

    5. Warmog’s Armor

Moving away from mythic items comes Warmog’s Armor, a classic item we all know and love and let us all face it, despite giving us tons of HP and a passive regeneration, Warmog’s really doesn’t give you much but late game lane sustainability. For a price of 3000 gold, you don’t really get that much value from this item. By the time you build this in mid-game, your enemies would have probably built offensive items as well that can burst you down because you only have tons of HP and no resistances.

Another reason is that there are tons of alternative items out there that also give you a huge boost in HP and still give you high resistances with amazing passives that make you even tankier. Alternative options are Deadman’s Plate which gives you 300 bonus HP and a passive that makes you build charges and build momentum to increase your movement speed. This item is great for tanks that roam like Rammus or even Leona.

Think of Warmog’s as a luxury item that you should only build to troll your enemies, after all, if you are playing a tank top laner and you are many times ahead of your opponent, it would be fun to annoy them with this item that gives you 800 hp and base like regeneration.

So far, Garen is the only champion that greatly synergizes with this item because it enhances his passive regeneration. Garen doesn’t use mana so his only reason for going to the base is by building items or restoring health, with Warmog’s you don’t need to base anymore when you are down in hp after a trade.

    6. Sheen

This item once used to have so many useful stats that buying it in the early game as your first base item is so good. Sheen used to have 250 mana for the wearer and an extra 10% cooldown reduction (now ability haste) but recently, Riot decided to remove these passives reducing the gold efficiency of this item. Sure, the cost went down but so is its value.

The fact that it is also a component item makes it even less valuable as a first base item buy. The item it builds into is great though so make sure to only buy Sheen if you already have the gold to complete an item it builds into. There are no alternatives for its Spellblade so still, this item still has its use.

    7. Rylai’s Crystal Scepter

The introduction of Glacial augment has made this item obsolete. It is downright useless as you can simply pick the Glacial Augment rune and you have yourself a slowing effect. Rylai’s was once a staple build on champions that has skillshots because it made it easier for them to hit their spells on slowed champions.

The glacial Augment rune is an alternative for Rylai’s and could even be much better than the item itself. You get more passive effects from the rune and it’s all free and can be used even at the start of the game. I think this item should be removed or be buffed soon because almost nobody builds this item anymore except Cassiopeia because it works well with her Q, as well as her whole ability kit.

Taking Glacial Augment saves users 2600 gold and that is a very gold efficient strategy. Another thing to take into consideration is that most champions nowadays already have slowing abilities or even Hard CC that can even trigger the effects of Glacial Augment that leaves a trail of frozen ground behind, slowing enemies down.

    8. Vigilant Wardstone

With a buy rate of 0.0%, this item really is one of the least bought items out there, now it doesn’t mean that nobody buys this item, that t really is downright useless. It still has an effect that some of us can use but its effect really is underwhelming.

This item lets you store one additional ward in your arsenal and a neat passive that increases your major stats by 12%. Not bad if you think about it but the fact that we have trinkets and just buy control wards even without this item makes it really useless and a waste of gold when you can just buy another item with even greater stats at the same price.

    9. Serpent’s Fang

League made this as a “situational” item, but when you are in a game of League of Legends, shields really don’t last that long. You can even buy items with grievous wounds or simply ignite champions so that their shields won’t be that big. This really is just a useless item when you think about it. Enemies don’t have shields all the time and this item’s passive only activates every time an enemy has a shield.

There are lots of items you can buy with the same price and have more effects than just bonus damage every time an opponent is shielded. Serpent’s fang made this list simply because it just feels like a stat stick that you buy only for that bonus stats it gives.

    10. Maw of Malmortius

This item was once a staple build for champions facing an overfed mage, but the item really feels underwhelming now that it has faced lots and lots of nerfs to the point that it became a joke. Sterak’s Gage is an alternative item for this and it has lots of passive effects that double the value of this item.

    Conclusion

The reason why these items are on this list is that, mainly, there are lots of alternatives for them, and buying those alternatives will give you so much gold efficiency. Buying alternatives will also give users much-needed passive and active effects that can help entire teams.

Now these are just our top 10 list and there are many more items out there that are downright useless, if you think there are items included here that you find useful then that’s great, we all have our own playstyles and if you can capitalize on these items, hands down I am impressed.
