The ranked queues of League of Legends have seen many kinds of players, from good to bad, from griefers to saints, from 1v9ers to “heavy” people that need to be carried hard. Of course, among this group are those who seem to always have the most critical points of their lives at the start of every League game. They then become AFK, and you’re left with the impending doom of a 4v5 and a guaranteed loss. What happens to you after this?
When They’re AFK at the Start…
When an ally goes AFK at the first three minutes of the game and stays AFK for 90 seconds, your team gets a notification in chat saying that one of your members is AFK and that you are eligible for a remake.
A remake allows your team to surrender before 10 minutes, but it doesn’t punish you. For everyone except the AFK player, the game ends, no one gains or loses LP, and the game is registered as a draw.
Only the AFK player is punished by listing the game as a loss, incurring the relevant LP loss plus an additional LP loss depending on how many times they’ve been AFK in a ranked match. Aside from the LP loss, the AFK player also receives a LeaverBuster warning.
Additionally, if you are in a premade party with the AFK player and are Diamond IV or above, you will incur an LP loss as if you lost the game.
As long as you’re not the AFK player, remaking with an AFK player will not cause you to lose LP.

When They’re AFK in the Middle…
When an ally goes AFK past three minutes but before 10 minutes, the game will notify you that you can do an early surrender. This requires a unanimous decision from the entire team. However, unlike a remake, this will count as a loss for your team, and you will incur an LP loss. This also goes for the original 15-minute early surrender condition.
Fortunately, the AFK player will also incur more LP loss, and they will also be marked by the LeaverBuster system and get into a low-priority queue. However, their other teammates will have to suffer a loss for it.

If you plan to play a ranked game in League, please make sure that you have sufficient time to play the game. It is not a pleasant experience to fight a 4v5 match, and even after that, other players who are doing their best will also take part in your fall.
