How to Fix Black Screen Issue in Champion Select?

Some League players have complained of a black screen that appears on their PC right after Champ Select. The game seems to start alright. You choose the game mode and join the champ select. However, as soon as champ select is over, you get a black screen on the PC. It’s not like the blue screen of death, which has text written on the screen, and your computer restarts with you being unable to do anything about it. This black screen is more ominous in some ways.

Once the game starts, you can hear all the audio the game has to offer, complete with sound effects, music, and champion dialogues. You just can’t see what’s happening on screen, which makes it worse. How can you fix this?

Solutions for the Black Screen Issue:

The black screen issue could be due to any number of reasons. Think of it like a doctor who reads the symptoms to identify the cause and prescribe the cure. Only in this case, the symptom is the black screen after champ select, but there could be many possible causes. The trick to fixing this issue is to try and attempt to fix the causes one by one in the hope that the actual reason for the black screen is addressed along the way. What are some of the solutions to this issue?

    1. Try resetting the adapter. The black screen issue could be a simple network problem. For this, you can either go to the command prompt and just go to the network settings through the control panel.
    2. Some users have also suggested turning off the firewall. This can help run League of Legends smoothly in case the firewall was accidentally blocking some piece of code that you need to run League of Legends with. However, turning off the firewall also means you won’t be protected by the firewall anymore.
    3. Alternatively, the problem could be originating from a driver issue. It might be fixed by having updated drivers. This can be done by going to the device manager from My Computer’s properties and then going to the display adapter. From there, you can simply update the driver to ensure the PC has the latest drivers. You can manually download drivers as well. Another way to fix this is to download a third-party driver-fixing application that will identify any outdated drivers and recommend the latest downloads
    4. You can change the DNS server to see if that fixes the problem. This is a bit technical so you need to follow each step.
      1. Go to the control panel and then the network and sharing center
      2. Click on the network adapter and then Properties
      3. Navigate to the Use the Following DNS Server Options
      4. enter the following digits:
        1. Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8 Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4
    5. One more way to fix the issue could be to simply try and change the cable attaching your monitor to the CPU.

These are some of the ways you can fix the Black Screen Issue after the League of Legends Champ select screen. Note that there could be many causes behind the same symptom ie the black screen. You just have to check all the possible causes while troubleshooting.
