What Are Borders?
In League of Legends, you are allowed to select from a massive variety of icons to represent your account best. Think of them as profile pictures that everyone can see and recognize. Around these icons, Riot Games also allows you to pick one border from however many are available to you. These are round emblems surrounding your icon to make it look more appealing.
There are two main ways to gain borders in League of Legends. The most common one is the one gained by leveling up. This is the one that everyone has, irrespective of their rank on the competitive ladder, simply by leveling up. The other one is the border gained based on your rank in the Ranked game mode.
